CityFitness Group Limited pleaded guilty to 8 representative charges for breaches of section 11 and 40(1) of the Fair Trading Act 1986 and was sentenced to an end fine of $1,120,000 on 5 June 2026. The proceedings related to conduct liable to mislead the public about the price of its gym memberships. City Fitness charged an unavoidable 3% surcharge that it falsely labelled as a ‘transaction fee’ during the period from 21 December 2023 to 30 April 2025.
