Brand Developers Limited (BDL) entered pleas of guilty to five charges relating to the sale and advertising of multipurpose "Transforma" metal ladders. BDL claimed in television advertisements, on labels attached to the ladders and in a letter to a retailer that the ladders complied with AS/NZS/1892.1 to a load rating of 180kg when they had not been tested and found to comply with that load rating. BDL also advertised and sold ladders in breach of an Unsafe Goods Notice issued by the Minister of Consumer Affairs. BDL fined $153,000.
