Mercury NZ Limited

Mercury NZ Limited has been fined $279,500 in relation to six charges under s 13(i) of the Fair Trading Act 1986. This sentencing follows Mercury’s guilty pleas to the charges which related to false and/or misleading representations made to affected customers that it had a right to charge an early termination fee of $150 upon cancellation of their energy plans, when it did not have that contractual right. The conduct occurred between 1 July 2017 and 10 December 2020.
