Household Cots

The Product Safety Standards (Household Cots) Regulations 2005 require compliance with AS/NZS 2172:2003 : Cots for household use - Safety requirements. The safety standard applies to anyone who supplies new or second-hand cots designed or intended for use in the home. However, second-hand cots are exempt from certain durability, strength-testing, packaging and labelling requirements.

The safety standard does not apply to antique cots or collectible cots but both must have a warning that the cot may not be suitable for use as a sleeping facility for a child.  The standard does not cover folding cots, carry cots, cradles and bassinets.

The safety standard sets out general construction, design and labelling requirements and requires new cots to pass specific safety tests.
