The Commerce Commission has appointed Ken Heaton its General Manager.

Mr Heaton is currently the Commission's Acting General Manager. He has been on secondment to the Commission from the Ministry of Commerce since July this year.

Commission Chairman John Belgrave welcomed Mr Heaton's appointment.

"Mr Heaton has a strong background in economics and public service management at the Ministry and at the Treasury," Mr Belgrave said. "He has already made a valuable contribution to the Commission as our Acting General Manager and I am delighted that he has accepted a four year contract."

Mr Heaton has been a Director in the Ministry's Resources and Networks Branch since 1997. His main responsibilities included providing economic advice to the Government on issues in the energy, telecommunications and postal sectors.

From 1987 to 1997 he carried out a range of management roles at the Treasury, working on health, education and taxation issues. He joined the Treasury in 1980 as an Assistant Investigating Officer.

Mr Heaton has an MBA with honours in economics from the University of Chicago and a BCA and BA from Victoria University.

He is originally from Rotorua.
