Supreme Court ruling - message from the Chair

Last week we received a much anticipated ruling from the Supreme Court following a challenge by Vector to our decision not to set a starting price input methodology for electricity distribution and gas pipeline services.

The ruling in the Commission’s favour has helped to promote the certainty the regime was designed to deliver.

The judicial reviews had delayed the implementation programme, delaying certainty for regulated businesses. Our implementation of the Part 4 regime can now proceed as intended.

We will now be able to announce the final default price-quality path reset for electricity distribution businesses next Friday 30 November 2012. We are also on track to deliver our final decision on the default price-quality path for gas pipeline businesses in February 2013.
