Otahuhu Substation Land Purchase

On 29 May 2009, Transpower New Zealand Limited (Transpower) submitted to the Commission a proposal seeking approval for buying a block of land next to the Otahuhu substation.

Transpower submitted this proposal as an economic investment under rule 14 of section III of part F of the Electricity Governance Rules 2003.

Transpower's application

Transpower bought this land during the Otahuhu substation diversity project to establish easements for transmission assets erected as part of the project. Since buying land was not in the scope of the Otahuhu substation diversity project, Transpower intended to on-sell this land once it was no longer required. However, Transpower has since determined that by 2023 it may require additional land for transmission development at the Otahuhu substation. Transpower seeks $6,730,000 for this investment.

Transpower sent the Commission a letter on 29 April 2013 withdrawing their proposal for the recovery of Otahuhu land purchase costs. The letter can be found below.

Project status

Proposal withdrawn on 29 April 2013.
