$3.65m in total penalties to date following second freight forwarding cartel case

A second multi-national freight forwarding company has been handed a penalty of $2.5 million following a Commerce Commission investigation into anti-competitive conduct in the freight forwarding market, taking the total penalties imposed so far to $3.65 million.

New Telecom wholesale VDSL2 service not to be regulated

The Commerce Commission has decided that a new wholesale VDSL2 service offered by Telecom New Zealand Limited does not need to be regulated, as it incorporates a number of features not included in the regulated unbundled bitstream access (UBA) service, and it is appropriate that the market determines the price for this enhanced service.

Commerce Commission latest broadband report shows continuing quality improvement

The quality of New Zealand's broadband services are continuing to improve according to a report released by the Commerce Commission today. The report, covering from 1 January - 30 June 2010, aims to provide a comparison of the relative performance of internet service providers (ISPs) in delivering broadband services in the major New Zealand cities.

Number portability determination extended

In a final determination issued today the Commerce Commission has extended the current arrangement for number portability for both local and mobile telephone numbers for another six years. Number portability enables a customer to change their telecommunications provider but retain the same telephone number.

Price of national mobile roaming to remain unregulated

- the cost of the Telecommunications Relay Service (TRS) for the hearing impaired; and
