The Commerce Commission has granted Stephen Reindler an exemption under the Electricity Industry Reform Act 1998 (the EIR Act) in relation to his proposed appointment to the board of Meridian Energy Limited. If Mr Reindler becomes a Director of Meridian, an electricity supply business, it would result in a cross involvement, as Mr Reindler is presently a senior manager of Auckland International Airport Limited (AIAL), an electricity lines business.Relates to: Electricity

Dairy Industry Restructuring Act: Commission decides to determine dispute between Grate Kiwi Cheese and Fonterra

The Commerce Commission has decided to determine a dispute between The Grate Kiwi Cheese Company Limited (Grate Kiwi) and Fonterra Co-operative Group Limited (Fonterra) about the interpretation and application of regulation 4(1) of the Dairy Industry Restructuring (Raw Milk) Regulations 2001 (the Raw Milk Regulations).

Court of Appeal confirms decision to control Powerco's and Vector's gas pipeline services

The Court of Appeal has dismissed a challenge by Powerco Limited to the Commerce Commission's 2004 recommendation to control gas pipeline services supplied by Powerco Limited and Vector Limited. The Court also dismissed Powerco's challenge to the Minister of Energy's subsequent decision to impose control. The Court found that, in recommending price control, the Commission's interpretation of the relevant regulatory provisions in the Commerce Act was "the correct approach".

Commerce Commission releases issues paper on mobile termination

The Commerce Commission today released an issues paper on mobile termination. The Commission is currently considering whether there are reasonable grounds to launch a Schedule 3 investigation under the Telecommunications Act.
