Gas Default Price Quality Path

Suppliers of gas pipeline services are subject to default/customised price-quality regulation under subpart 10 of Part 4 of the Commerce Act 1986.

The initial default price-quality path (DPP) applying to gas pipeline services will apply from 1 July 2012. Matters relating to customised price-quality paths are currently being developed as part of input methodologies.

The main features of default/customised price-quality regulation include:

  • a DPP, a default set of regulatory provisions, covering both price and quality which applies to all regulated suppliers;
  • the ability for individual suppliers to make proposals to the Commission for a customised price-quality path to better meet the supplier’s particular circumstances; and
  • penalty provisions for breaches of price-quality paths.
