The Commerce Amendment Act 2008 amends the regulatory control provisions of the Commerce Act 1986. The amended provisions directly affect the regulatory approach to gas and electricity regulation, and extends the Commerce Commission’s responsibilities to include airport services. The Commerce Amendment Act received Royal Assent on 16 September 2008 and took effect from 14 October 2008. The provisions of the Commerce Amendment Act that regulate electricity lines services take effect from 1 April 2009.

December 2008: A discussion paper providing an overview of the Act and discussing the Act and its implications was released for consultation on 19 December 2008.
