
Importing, supplying or advertising goods declared by the Minister of Consumer Affairs to be unsafe is an offence under the Fair Trading Act. The Minister may declare any goods unsafe where it appears they may cause injury.
Unsafe goods notices currently apply to:
- Tian Mao Panda Water Colour Paint Sets
- (a) Water Colour paint or painting sets for art and crafts packaged under the name Tian Mao
- (b) Water Colour paint or painting sets with the product code TM-9018; and
- (c) Water Colour paint or painting sets for art and crafts featuring the identified logo as above.
- Children’s toys with excessive lead levels. The Unsafe Goods Notice (Lead in Children’s Toys) limits the levels of lead migration allowed in children’s toys to 90 milligrams per kilogram of toy material.
- Ninja pistol crossbow, Barnett Phantom pistol crossbow, and any pistol crossbow which does not have a safety catch on the firing mechanism.
- Candles containing greater than 0.06% lead by weight in their wicks and candlewicks containing greater than 0.06% lead by weight.
- Rubber or PVC hot water bottles which do not meet BS1970:2001 or BS1970:2006 Hot water bottles manufactured from rubber and PVC specification and do not show compliance of less than 36 months old with either standard from a laboratory accredited to ISO17025. Rubber hot water bottles that did not meet the British Standard were first banned 26 November 2004.
