The 2013/14 year will undoubtedly be a busy one for the Commission with significant change on the horizon that will impact the breadth of our work.

We continue to work hard preparing for the upcoming changes proposed in the Consumer Law Reform Bill and the Commerce (Cartels and Other Matters) Amendment Bill, developing the necessary systems, policies and guidance to enforce the new legislation as and when it passes.

We are also preparing for changes proposed to the Credit Contracts and Consumer Finance Act which will include new responsible lending provisions and other protections for borrowers.

We face considerable change and challenges in our regulatory work, as we prepare for potential reform with the Government’s review of telecommunications regulation, and begin our pricing review of wholesale prices for access to Chorus’ unbundled copper local loop.

We are continuing to bed down the new Part 4 regime, which has been hindered by considerable litigation over the past three years, and look forward to receiving some clarity from the High Court’s judgements on input methodologies.
